Knowing the science helps master the technique of baking bread
People are scared of baking bread, but they shouldn't be!
From personal experience and a collective sentiment I knew that the thought of baking bread from scratch can be really intimidating. In reality it's not too bad when you understand how the all ingredients work together. I wanted to help convince people to face their fears!
A informational video for newcomers to the baking world
I started by imagining the type of person who would find this information useful: someone who wants to bake but doesn't understand the ins and outs of the recipe. Yeast is an important yet temperamental ingredient. If it isn’t properly activated, the recipe will not come out right. I narrowed in on thoroughly explaining yeast’s role in baking bread. The goal was to make newbies feel more confident.

Mood boarding
I set up a mood board on Pinterest to gather and organize inspirational elements. This was super helpful (and fun) for ideation!
My hunch was that the most effective way to connect with my audience would be through using familiar kitchen items. I really loved how writing in flour looked: it was legible yet playful. Bakers should embrace the mess! I wrote words with cooking twine to create hierarchy while sticking to the DIY theme.

Fine-Tuning the Metaphor
Capturing the process
I nailed down the tone and created a guide to ensure my storyboard was complete. The analogy of little hungry monsters represents how yeast behaves when it’s activated. The image of a little creature emphasizes the idea that yeast is a living organism. They’re why bread comes out fluffy!
